How to install Internet Information Server

Here you can find some information about installing Internet Information Server.

<-- Back to the F.A.Q mainpage

Please note that Internet Information Server doesn't work on
Windows XP Home Edition(!).
If you are on XP Home Edition, take a look at the PHP-version of inAudio instead.
Click here to find more information about this issue on the Microsoft Website.
If you are using another version of Windows XP than Home Edition, Internet Information Server should work fine.

First, make sure that Internet Information Server is not already installed.
Open a new web-browser and type in the location:
http://127.0.0.1/
If you get a reply from your own machine (i.e. not an DNS/Server not found error message or an msdn search-results page) you have a local webserver installed. If you have no recollection of installing one its probably internet information server or personal webserver that you have running.
In that case you don't have to do anything, just go and install inAudio!

If you don't get a local page or not a reply at all, you need to install Internet Information Services.

Windows 95/98/ME-users should install Personal Webserver instead.
Windows 95 users need to download Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack for Windows 95 to get Personal Webserver.
Windows 98/ME users can find the the Personal Webserver installation on their installation CD:s

Instructions for installing Internet Information Server on Windows 2000:
Begin by opening up the control panel. (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel)
Click the Add/Remove Programs Icon

The Add/Remove Programs window will open up.
Click on Add/Remove Windows Components.

The Windows Components Wizard will open up.

Needed components for inAudio to work is:
  • Common Files
  • World Wide Web Server

I also recommend you to install:
  • Internet Information Services Snap-In

I recommend you NOT to install
  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP)-server
  • Frontpage 2000 Server Extensions
unless you feel you need them because they start upp services and servers on you machine that you usually don't need. If you want an FTP-server there are much better products out there ;)
    Click OK
In the Windows Components Wizard dialog, click Next
Windows will now set up IIS for you :)
