"So, whats inAudio 2.0 about?"

"I'd just thought I should share some of the thoughts I have for inAudio
2.0.
None of the things I state here are guaranteed to be included in
version 2.0 of inAudio but it's what I'm leaning towards..."

"Wordlists
To begin with, one of the problems I have seen with inAudio is that
searching tends to get very slow once you pass say 8000+ files.
Well, perhaps not very slow but it could be faster anyway.
Therefore inAudio 2 will work with wordlists instead
(the current system basicly just does a search on all the files stored
in the database).
A wordlist-search instead uses a list of words found in all files,
directorynames and id3-tags which enables the system to very quickly
retrieve a much smaller subset of items to work with for the actual
search.
id3-support
As you can see from above about searching inAudio 2.0 will also finally
support id3-tags (both version 1 and 2).
Reading of id3-tags is already working, I have still to figure out if I
will implement writing of id3-tags.
If you happen to have a working function for writing id3v2-tags
using PHP,
drop me a line if you wish to help
out.
Platform-independence
The entire system for inAudio 2.0 will be completely rewritten from the
core up using pure PHP, thus enabling the system to be platform-
independent. You can run inAudio 1.3 on a machine running say Linux,
but you still need a windows-box for setup and re-indexing. This
will no longer be the case in inAudio 2.0.
I have still to figure out if I will support ASP for version 2.0, for
the moment I will only work on the PHP-version.
Users and groups
Another feature that will be added to inAudio 2 is multi-user support
and user-groups, enabling you to set rights to different functions
based on user or the group the user belongs to.
Closer integration with web
For inAudio 2.0 the integration to the webserver will be improved.
You won't have to setup replacementrules and such, you will just be
able to specify a web-path for each indexing-location you specify and
the system will do the rest.
Once a playlist has been opened using your musicplayer (say winamp or
xmms) you will be able to se in the webinterface which song your are
playing at the moment and information about that song.
(filesize, filenamn, path and if available: id3-information such as
album, artist, year and so on).
New interface
inAudio 2.0 will have a completely new look and interface featuring a
completely moveable-window-based working enviroment.
My goal is enabling the user to use drag-and-drop from searches to
create playlists which you then can play or save.
There will also be a ""lite""-version of the interface for browsers that
doesn't support modern standards.
More to come..."
